COSMETIC TATTOOING AFTERCARE

microblading - powder brows - faux freckles

Do not disturb/touch the tattooed area within the first 8-12 hours at least. As needed blot the area with sterile gauze & distilled/bottled water. This is most needed if the tattoo appears to be sweating/beading lymph or bleeding. (pigment/blood/lymph fluid may transfer to cotton. (This is normal)

Immediately following your appointment, the tattooed area will appear to be darker, bigger, and more sharply defined. This will last about 5 days. DO NOT PANIC, this is normal.

Swelling and redness is minimal and should dissipate within the first 48 hours. It is normal for your tattooed area to feel sunburned/tight. You will experience minimal discomfort for the first few days following your appointment.

A) Wash your hands with antibacterial soap before touching the tattooed area.

B) Gently wash the tattooed area 1-2x a day with cold water and rice grain amount of BrowsEyesLips Skin Cleanser. (Dial gold is an alternative) DO NOT SCRUB, Pat dry with a clean disposable paper towel. Avoid using any other cleansers on the tattooed area for the14 days as it can be detrimental to the bonding process that must take place for the pigment to stabilize in the dermis.

C) Apply rice grain amount of BrowsEyesLips Aftercare Ointment post cleansing with clean fingers using a pat/press motion. (Aquaphor is an alternative) BE GENTLE & don’t over apply ointment. Avoid any moisturizers, oils and Vaseline for a minimum of two weeks directly on the tattooed area. ointment in the healing process keeps scabs from being too coarse. Healing ointment can be eliminated after the first 7-10 days.

DO NOT SCRUB, RUB, SCRATCH OR PICK TATTOOED AREA! Let any dry skinor flakiness fall off naturally. Picking can cause scarring and premature loss of pigment. IMPORTANT: once the flakes have fallen off, a shiny layer of healing skin will appear covering implanted pigment. It will appear as though the tattoo is gone or fuzzy. Within 1-2 more weeks, the pigment will slowly reappear as the skin rejuvenates.

Avoid direct sun exposure for the first 14 days. YOU MUST WEAR A HAT while outside during your healing process. UV/UVA rays can cause a shift in color and/or color loss. Do not use tanning products or salon tanning during your healing.

DO NOT apply cosmetics or other skincare products to the tattooed area for14 days. Products containing retin-a, glycolic acid, salicylic acid or other alpha hydroxy acids (words ending in “ic” acid) used anywhere on the face can migrate and disrupt your tattoo and cause loss of implanted color.

You MUST AVOID WORKING OUT/NO SWEAT forat least 7 days following your tattoo appointment. The salt in sweat will fade the pigment very quickly and result in significant color loss. Sodium/Saline solutions are actually used in tattoo removal b/c of their effectiveness to fade/lift tattoo pigment.

You MUST AVOID swimming, saunas & hot tubs for a minimum of 14 days. Even long hot showers can create a sauna like environment causing you to sweat. Be mindful to avoid such “like” environments.

Avoid the following for 14 days: performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning that may result in airborne debris/open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles/walking or any activities directly on the beach. Drinking alcohol in excess can lead to slower healing. Please avoid drinking during your first 48 hours following your procedure.

Avoid the following for at least 4-6 weeks following your final procedure: chemical peels, facials, Botox & other skin treatments.

The complete healing process can take about 6-8 weeks, at which time the true color of the tattoo is evident. During these few weeks, your tattoo will soften and lighten. Be patient, even if you think too much color has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating. Wait at least 6-8 weeks to see the true color. Once the treated area is completely healed, any additions that need to be made can be done at your next scheduled session.

*If you have any unexpected concerns with the healing of the skin, please contact your artist immediately to discuss further instructions.

      ONCE HEALED

Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading/shifting in color of the tattoo. Once completely healed, you must apply sunscreen to the tattooed area. Wear large sunglasses and a hat for further protection. These measures extend the life and quality of your tattoo.

Glycolic acid, retin-a, AHA’s & face peels must be kept away from the tattooed area as continued use will lighten/blur/shift the implanted pigment.

If you have laser resurfacing or laser hair removal after your tattoo has healed, please inform the laser technician. Laser procedures may darken, lighten, or discolor the tattooed area. Be advised that improper/amateur use of lasers in the tattooed area can alter your tattoo permanently.
